Milch Mahl
Being a lactating human, lactating for a life to grow. Breastfeeding and
pumping milk for months, day in and day out. To be a machine and
surender completely to my bodily functions of producing. Allowing myself
to do this performance, just being present and enduring my vulnerability.
An investigation of the relationship between the reproductive body and
the public. “Milch Mahl” takes place on two days at the All Inclusive
Festival 2023. Starting exactly five minutes past twelve next to the
cafeteria in the big foyer (of the HSLU DFK), I sit on a stool at the end and
on top of a long table, reminiscent of the last supper. In a red dress
pumping breast milk publicly. While the amplified sound of the milk pump
and the crispy noise of my breath captures and occupies the full space.
People line up to get their lunch. Standing in the queue or passers-by have
no escape to look away, the performance is intrusive. So to speak,
the audience is hanging on my breast and I am hanging on the pump.
