„In the Mood for Thistles“ist eine Videoperformance mit einer Distel. Ich habe sie zufällig auf einer Brache getroffen. Sie streckte sich zwischen den Büschen und einem Zaun dem Oktoberlicht entgegen. Würde sie mit mir performen?

Ich stand vor der Pflanze und überlegte, wie ich ihr begegnen könnte, ohne mich und die Pflanze zu verletzen. Wie könnten wir uns nach Haraway gegenseitig „befähigen“? Bestenfalls, wie Haraway vorschlägt, wird mein Denken so vergrößert, dass sich Seins- und Wissensweisen ausbreiten. Dies geschieht durch Neugierde und Höflichkeit, sagt sie, indem ich Überraschungen zulasse. Ich besann mich auf meine meditative Praxis und näherte mich in einer stillen, konzentrierten Haltung.

An zwei Tagen performten wir mehrmals vor der Kamera. Vielleicht konnte ich während der Performance einen Blick auf die zeitliche Existenz der Pflanze erhaschen. Ein magischer Moment?

"In the Mood for Thistles" is a video performance with a thistle. I met her/him by chance on a fallow land. She/he stretched out between the bushes and a fence towards the October light. Would she/he perform with me?

I stood in front of the plant and thought about how I could meet her/him without hurting myself or the plant. According to Haraway, how could we "empower" each other? At best, as Haraway suggests, my thinking is enlarged so that ways of being and knowing expand. This happens through curiosity and courtesy, she says, by allowing for surprise. I recalled my meditative practice and approached in a quiet, focused posture.

Over two days, we performed several times in front of the camera. Perhaps I was able to catch a glimpse of the plant's temporal existence during the performance. A magical moment?
